Weird. The Sun have got a headline reading “THE MIGHTY BOOSH ARE SPLITTING UP!” Such is the phenomena of Ver Boooosh, that they’re spoken about like a rock band as opposed to a comedy pairing. I mean, did you ever read the headline The Fast Show Are Splitting Up! or The League Of Gentleman Break Up! at any point in your life? The Sun continued “The clown princes behind The Mighty Boosh are poised to go solo.” Loads of comedy acts have been thought of as rock ‘n’ roll… The Pythons, The Mary Whitehouse Experience… but not to this level. So what’s the deal with the split anyway? Well…

Apparently, Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding are calling time because Barratt wants to focus on his family. You might think that’s a bit boring, but his wife is the astoundingly brilliant Julia Davies (Nighty Night and Jam). They’ve got twins see. It seems that Fielding’s seemingly constant presence on the party scene (which is not a place per se) and Barratt’s homeliness, hasn’t exactly enabled them to get much new work done.
A source told The Sun: “The boys simply have different priorities now. Julian is in love with family life and sees a wild night out as a pint in Hampstead’s Holly Bush pub. Noel still loves the gig scene. He also wants to get out to the US where the Boosh is a big hit on the Adult Swim network.
“Julian isn’t as excited and fans are running a sweepstake on the Mighty Boosh forum about him not showing up for their slot at the Comic-Con convention in San Diego on July 24 – it’s sold out thanks to their cult following in the US.
“Julian didn’t even attend the debut screening of Boosh guru Paul King’s new film The Bunny And The Bull earlier this month, despite starring alongside Noel in it.
“Meanwhile, Noel is writing some of the best material of his career for The Big Chill festival in Herefordshire in August.
“They still love each other but have taken different paths and I can’t see where the Boosh can go now.”
It stills sounds a bit sketchy and nothing official has come out yet so don’t start weeping into your pear cider yet Boosh nuts.
